The name "Ca' Rapulin" evokes the poor origin of local wines and foods that over time have become part of a new enogastronomy.
Ca' Rapulin is so named to pay homage to an old local tradition. "Rapulin" means small grape cluster, fruit of secondary vine shoots that mature much after the regular harvest season is over.
According to the tradition, the owners of the vineyards years ago would let the local poor collect the Rapulin Grapes so that they could make their own "poor wine" (low in sugar and alcohol).
The tradition of passing through the vineyards to collect the late Rapulin grapes is celebrated with the annual festival of Calosso called "Rapule". In the third weekend of October, thousand of visitors descend on Calosso for the night walk from crotin to crotin. Each house in Calosso offers home food and wine, making the walk a lay pilgrimage of flavors from this land.
